First let me just say that I am a huge fan of any L.J. Shen book that I have read, and I have loved every book in the Boston Belles Series. The Rake did not disappoint at all, not to mention the cover was so sexy that even if I didn't love the author, I would have downloaded this book! The Rake is Emmabelle and Devon's story and even though they both had some childhood trauma, they both turned out so strong and I loved their love story. Emmabelle is a strong female character who doesn't need a man and decides she wants to become a mother before it's too late. Devon is a rich and powerful playboy, who is a little older than Emmabelle but they've been thrown together since they are friends with the same group of people. I just loved this book. It wasn't my favorite in the Boston Belles Series, *cough* The Monster *cough*, but it was still so beautifully written and wonderful love story! I would rate this with 5 Stars!
Favorite Excerpt:
Not one to be deterred by her lack of availability, I left her voicemails left and right while trudging along the painfully slow traffic of Boston during rush hour.
“Hello, darling, it’s your boyfriend. The one you just left with a fucking note. Yes, the same one whose baby you’re carrying. If you think we aren’t going to talk about it, you’re gravely mistaken. Oh, and by the way, whatever happened to the fact that people are trying to KILL YOU? Ring me back. Kisses. Dev.”
And then:
“Sweven. Hope your evening is going better than mine. Where are you? Also, if this is you telling me in a roundabout way Louisa’s presence is bothering you, may I suggest hiring a life or speech coach to help you with your communication skills? Call me back.”
And finally:
“Emmabelle fucking Penrose. Pick up the bloody phone!”
Things escalated from there.
